Frontman Gijs Schouten mag dan soms doorgaan voor Robert Smith-lookalike, inclusief pluiskapsel en lippenstift, maar zijn Haagse synthpopgroep My Girlfriend klinkt nooit als The Cure - of welke andere 80’s-doemband dan ook. Daarvoor zijn de songs veel te sprankelend, te zeer geënt op de indierock van 21e-eeuwse bands als The Wombats of vroege Arctic Monkeys, maar dan minus de gitaren. Supercatchy, en altijd lekker de beuk erin, soms op het stadioneske af. Laat My Girlfriend maar schuiven.
