In The Netherlands pianist Cor Bakker is well-known for his many performances with national and international artists in various musicshows on Dutch National TV. Less people know that jazz was his first love. It was the famous Dutch pianist Louis van Dijk who once urged Bakker to apply to the Amsterdam Sweelinck Conservatory for studying piano. There he graduated in 1984 with honors. He then studied in Los Angeles with his great idol, the well-known American jazz and pop pianist, arranger and composer Clare Fischer.
From 1989 to 2000 Bakker was the regular pianist of the Metropole Orchestra. As the winner of the Kiwanis Jazz Award (2007) and the Meerjazz Prize (2015), Bakker has also shown how to distinguish himself in the Dutch jazzscene.
On both jazzalbums Elettra and Elettra due – both recorded under idyllic circumstances in an Italian villa – you can hear Cor Bakker's great love for jazz and also the strong influence of his heroes Clare Fischer (Cor's teacher in Los Angeles) and Chick Corea.
When Cor performed his jazz repertoire for the first time at The Royal Concertgebouw, de Volkskrant wrote: “Cor Bakker impresses with an original concert with his own compositions.”
