On October 22, the first guitar festival of THGS will take place, festival 'Gitaar aan de sluis', in Leidschendam. With special concerts, interactive guitar workshops, children's concerts and film screening, it promises to be a beautiful day. Lots of guitar for young and old!
Duo Elias/Cordas was formed in 2005, and their latest album “Schubert’s Guitars” recently received 4 stars in the Dutch newspaper ‘De Volkskrant‘.
The versatile and pioneering guitarist Izhar Elias and the leading guitarist Fernando Cordas are praised for their beautiful ensemble playing, their virtuosity, their lyricism and their knowledge about historical performance practices. As soloists, the two guitarists have often performed in the largest concert halls and at various festivals in the Netherlands and abroad. They teach at the conservatories in The Hague and Amsterdam and they often perform on the national radio and the television. As a duo, Izhar and Fernando present their music with such an astonishing manner, rendering their shows a unique experience.
Closing concert: ‘A stage full of guitars’
The Adagio from Concierto de Aranjuez by Joaquin Rodrigo is perhaps the most famous guitar work of all times. The melancholic musical theme of the blind Spanish composer always moves the audience emotionally. After the first few notes you immediately feel like you are in Spain. The program has been made around this world-famous Adagio, with poetic melodies. In the first half we go to the musical capital of Vienna, at the beginning of the 19th century, with music by Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert performed on various historical guitars. Did you know that Schubert himself could also play the guitar?
It promises to be an evening with music from two completely different musical worlds. We will listen to the Viennese classical masterpieces on unique guitars, and to a premiere by the Dutch composer Bart Berman inspired by Schubert’s music and Rodrigo’s world-famous Adagio.
