Christmas Concert

A Christmas concert. That's never been done before, right? As a new ensemble, we asked ourselves what our objectives were. Which side of Christmas do we treasure the most? Where do we want to shine our spotlight through this musical journey? Well, as it turns out, all over the place. We have a varied programme, which stretches all the way from the early renaissance right up until music from the present day. Some of the pieces we will be performing deliver the good old-fashioned nostalgic nutmeg and orange scented atmosphere of dark and cosy nights huddled around the fire as the winter winds beat against the window. We will venture to an even more traditional candle-lit midnight mass. Picture yourself wrapped tightly in your winter coat as you look up at the magnificent cathedral roof suspended above your head, the (hopefully) angelic voices of the choir making the air quiver, opening the door to the divine. A festive chord of roast meat, mulled wine and 'It's been too long' friends and family will also be struck and of course there is nothing like the slightly obnoxious Christmas jumper with a comically large bow-tie to wrap the whole thing up. Many of these tunes will be familiar. Some will have a twist larger than others. Perhaps some will be new to you entirely. What we can promise, in any case, is that we have not given this program the chance to grow dull.
