Jaco Pastorius (1951 – 1987) is one of the most influential bass guitarists ever. Pastorius turned the bass guitar into a solo instrument. In addition to his solo work, he gained world fame through his work with bands and artists such as Weather Report, Pat Metheny, Toots Thielemans and Joni Mitchell.
Jimmy Haslip is the former bassist and co-founder of the American jazz fusion group Yellowjackets. Jimmy, who has performed with Pastorius, is coming to the Netherlands for a special tribute to Pastorius. The tribute is an idea and initiative of percussionist and friend Jeroen de Rijk and the organization of the Red Light Jazz festival. For this occasion, Jimmy will bring "Zawinul protegé" keyboardist Scott Kinsey with him.
Jimmy Haslip is the founder of Yellowjackets and toured with, among others, Al Jarreau, Chaka Kahn, Allan Holdsworth and Jeff Lorber. He did recording-sessions with Bobby McFerrin, Gino Vannelli, Steely Dan, Anita Baker and many others.
Scott Kinsey played with Tribal Tech, John Scofield, Joe Zawinul, Lalah Hathaway, Roben Ford, Airto Moreira, Vinnie Colaiuta and John Patitucci, among others.
Haslip and Kinsey will be supported by two Dutch top musicians.
Percussionist Jeroen de Rijk has a long track record in and outside the Netherlands and has played with Jimmy in Yellowjackets and Gino Vannelli projects, with Mezzoforte and Toots Thielemans but also on recordings of Michael Jackson and Bruno Mars.
Hans Eijkenaar takes place behind the drum set. Eijkenaar played with, amongst others, Candy Dulfer, Gino Vannelli, Robby Valentine, Trijntje Oosterhuis, Herman Brood, Thijs van Leer, Toots Thielemans and Anouk. In the past Hans formed a duo with Jeroen de Rijk named ‘Eijk & De Rijk’. The duo used to tour and record albums with Jimmy Haslip for people like Leonardo Amuedo and Eric Vloeimans.
