She is the most portrayed woman in art history. She is the subject of countless choral works. Maria.
There are so many wonderful songs written for her, and about her, that only a small selection of them already makes for a fascinating journey through music history. The Leids Kamerkoor, directed by Jeroen Spitteler, will be happy to take you on such a journey, from the 14th century to 2017.
You will enjoy works by Clemens Non Papa, El Llibre Vermell de Montserrat, Poulenc, Jansson, Rachmaninov, Grieg, Guerrero, Kverno, Pärt and Tavener. And we have a surprise in store: Jeroen Spitteler has composed a piece specially for the women of the Leids Kamerkoor: Gerard Manley Hopkins's poem "The May Magnificat" set to music.
Admission is free for children 12 years old or younger.
