Historian Jonathan Israel highlights Spinoza's role as architect of democratic equality and justice. He will also present his lbook SPINOZA, LIFE & LEGACY with a new interpretation of Spinoza's life and thought, based on historical sources never before consulted. Signed books will be available after the lecture (english).
Jonathan Israel (London, Princeton USA) is one of the world's leading historians on the history of the Enlightenment. His main work:
Radical Enlightenment (2001), Enlightenment Contested (2006) and Democratic Enlightenment (2011). In Israel's definition, the Enlightenment developed in the period 1680-1800. He attributes the source of the Radical Enlightenment to the work of Benedictus de Spinoza.
Location: New Church, where Spinoza was buried on 21 February 1677.
