Orpheus & Cecilia focuses on the joy and satisfaction of making music. The programme features the Te Deum and various other pieces by J.P. Sweelinck, who was also known as the "Orpheus of Amsterdam." He composed at the intersection of Polyphony and Baroque music, and had a significant influence on an entire generation of German Baroque composers. On the programma joyful and also poignant Baroque music by Schein, Scheidt, and J.S. Bach (Jesu, meine Freude).

Another musical icon is Saint Cecilia, patron saint of musicians and composers and a source of inspiration for many. Benjamin Britten's Hymn to St. Cecilia and Arvo Pärt's Dopo la vittoria will be performed. The latter work refers to the origins of the Te Deum, as earlier set to music by Sweelinck.
