Krzysztof Groen en Bé Schmaal

Krzysztof Groen and Bé Schmaal immerse themselves completely in Groningen culture as the duo Mitzienbaaident.

Since December 2018, Bé Schmaal and Krzysztof Groen have been playing together. Their very first performance was at a privately organized Christmas market in Muntendam. After Krzysztof made a guest appearance at Bé’s first album release show, the two began playing together weekly and started performing under the duo name Mitzienbaaident.

Krzysztof Groen, from Veendam, has been building his musical career for many years. He often performs solo, but also collaborates in various projects, and is a member of the Johnny Cash tribute band “Little Cash.” He is a smooth, skilled guitarist and a singer with a warm, rich, and slightly dark tone. He has released several solo singles, with “Op Riddel” being the most well-known. Together with Bé, he has written and performed several Mitzienbaaident songs that have received airplay on regional radio.

Bé Schmaal is a Groningen-language singer-songwriter from Meeden. In 2019, he released his debut album titled 13 bie 60. The first single from that album, “Zwait en Zwoare Sjek,” along with its follow-ups, performed well on regional radio stations. As of January 2026, he has released his third album. Bé mainly writes and sings about subjects close to his heart, such as family, love, and emotion.

Their repertoire is a mix of original Groningen-language songs by both artists and English-language material, giving space to each of their musical preferences. Krzysztof leans more toward country music, while Bé tends toward well-known songs from the alternative scene. Their voices blend surprisingly well, and their enjoyment of singing in harmony is both clearly audible and visible.
