Damask Ensemble and Oerknal! New Music Collective present a program marrying some of the earliest written music--polyphony of Perotin and Machaut, which incorporated sacred texts into secular melodies--with 20th century masterpieces inspired by the older repertoire’s spare and uncompromising beauty, including works of Messiaen, Boulez, Stravinsky, Debussy, Takemitsu, and a newly commissioned work by Reiko Füting.
