Positioned between jazz and experimental music, Emilio Parrilla Acoustic Band creates a refined and flexible sound world shaped by collective improvisation and close musical interaction. Ten years after their debut album, Tribute to Jimmy Giuffre, Emilio Parrilla presents a renewed artistic vision through the use of Fantasy Boxes, sculptural objects that function as scores and “mechanical musicians,” guiding and inspiring the ensemble’s improvisation. Praised by JazzFlits as “chamber jazz on the highest level,” the ensemble is led by the core trio of Emilio Parrilla (clarinet), Yoojin Ko (flute), and S’yo Yen (piano). For this performance, they are joined by DUOT, the duo formed by Albert Cirera (saxophones) and Ramon Prats (drums), widely regarded as one of the leading groups in free jazz and improvised music on the Iberian Peninsula. The result is a poetic and immersive concert in which written-sounding passages emerge organically, and carefully shaped musical lines unfold with the freedom of the present moment.
